The end of the world as we know it
The world is going to end — again. 2012 is sending people racing to stock up on food and water before the inevitable end of the world happens. I’m not really sure exactly how rumors that the world was going to end or that we could expect the Second Coming of Christ began, but they were everywhere and even easier to find than money lenders.
People feared all computers would quit working Jan 1, 2000. Since that end of the world is done, it’s time for the next end of the world, 2012.Will the world end when the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012.
‘2012′ pulls in the big bucks
The film “2012,” which stars John Cusack and details the upcoming apocalypse, beat out all of the other films in theaters in terms of ticket sales over the weekend. Maybe it was because it was the only real new release, since “Pirate Radio” was only released in a few hundred movie houses.
million for 2012, pushing A Christmas Carol out of no. 1 spot. 1 place to # 2. 3rd in was “The Men Who Stare at Goats” with .1 million. “Precious,” a riveting story by Oprah & Tyler Perry came in no. 4th of the 5 places, with .1 million. Precious is only showing in less than 200 theaters so this is amazing. 2012, A Christmas Carol and Michael Jackson’s This is It are all in the top 5.1 million.
More about ‘2012′
The Mayan Long Count calendar comes to an end on Dec. 21, 2012. On that calendar, the year is 5125. Theories are flying as to what the 2012 really means. People are comparing it with the apocalpyse.
Of course, the film “2012″ focuses on the idea that disaster will strike. The Mayan calendar is said to end on December 21, 2012. That’s where the storyline comes from. 2012 is a great adventure action-packed movie not representing the beliefs of the Mayan people, just selling tickets.
Box office top 10
Amazingly, despite horrible reviews, both “Fourth Kind” and “Couples Retreat” did well at the box office, coming in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Couples Retreat is surprisingly still pulling in viewers. 5 weeks after it’s release. “Paranormal Activity” came in no. 8.
Paranormal Activity cost a mere ,000 to make but made more than million this weekend alone. Making over 0 million in just this past few days. Rounding out the top 10 box office moneymakers, “Law Abiding Citzen” made .nine million dollars, the Box pulled in 3.2 million.
